about Alex Gage family optometrist
When Alex Gage bought his first practice in Woodseats, Sheffield over 11 years ago, he was continuing a 40 year strong tradition of there being an optometric practice at 857 Chesterfield Road. Ever since he had graduated with a degree in Optometry from Manchester University in 1990, he had long harboured an ambition to run his own business and to be able of offer families the levels of customer care and high standards that he had grown up with. He refurbished the shop, equipped it with established optical brands like Essilor and Bausch and Lomb and leading consumer brands like Silhouette and Stepper and invested in on-site glazing and a state of the art computer system.
In 2005, Alex treated his wife to a very unusual birthday present - an optometric practice of her own! 4 Crookes Road in Broomhill, West Sheffield, had also been home to a popular optician, John Pepper, for decades. The opening of the practice realised the dream of working together that had driven the couple since they first met as students of optometry in 1988.
In 2005, Alex realised another ambition and became one of a handful of optometrists in the North of England to gain the prestigious Diploma in Sports Vision. An active sportsman himself. he combined his diploma learnings, his interest in sport and his business acumen to establish 2012 Sports Vision, the arm of Alex Gage that specialises in optimising sports performance through visual superiority.
