It essential to have your child's eyesight tested from an early age. It is recommended that children should have an eye examination at least by the age of three, or earlier if you think there may be problems.
A child's vision is fully developed by the age of 8. It's worth making regular visits to the family optometrist especially if there is a history of eyesight defects in your family. If left for too long, some sight defects cannot be corrected. Less than yearly visits are therefore strongly recommended during early years.
Eye examinations are available without charge for all children up to the age of 16.
